Lance Allred called up by Cleveland Cav's
(Mar 13)
Yesterday the Cleveland Cavaliers called up former Weber State center Lance Allred from the NBA D-League's Idaho Stampede.

He will join the Cavaliers for tonight's game against the Wizards on TNT at 6pm.

Allred graduated from WSU in 2005 after completing 2 years of basketball for the Purple & White. He played his freshman and sophomore years at the University of Utah.

Lance Allred
Where has Lance been since WSU?
Since playing for Weber, Allred competed at the 2005 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, he played with the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2005 Reebok Vegas Summer League, he played overseas in Spain, France and Puerto Rico. Last summer he played for the Boston Celtics in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. This past Fall before the D-League season started, Lance played for the EA Sports team where they traveled around the U.S. playing colleges. They made a stop at USU where they beat the Aggies 86-81 which pleased many of the WSU faithful.

Lance: "It's been a long three years since college. I've been a lot of places that would have made a lot of people quit."

Allred was born in Montana and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah when he was 15. He attended East High School where he was teammates with Talmadge Eyre. Eyre also played basketball for Weber State (2001-03). The 6-foot-11, 260-pound Ivan Drago look-a-like was up to 275 at WSU where he dominated the Big Sky.

Lance's red-shirt year WSU won the Big Sky title and went 16-0. His junior year WSU lost in the semifinals to the eventual champion EWU. His senior year, he led WSU to the conference champioship game where the 'Cats ended up losing because Jamal Jenkins took the final shot of the game to win at half court with almost 3 seconds remaining in the game.

Before spending the last two years in the D-League, Allred played in France. He suffered a knee injury that required surgery. He didn't play much for the Stampede last season, but started all 38 games this year before getting the call.

Achievements with the Idaho Stampede
Lance started all 38 games this season. His 16 and 10 helped guide the Stampede to a record-setting 18-game winning streak. He was an All-Star this year and won the inaugural H.O.R.S.E competition at the D-League’s Dream Factory Friday Night during NBA All-Star Weekend.

Lance's College Stats:
17.7 ppg, 12 rpg, 51% from the field, and 60% 3-pointers. His senior year for the Wildcats he scored a season high 32 points and his best rebounding game was 21. He was the 3rd leading rebounder in the nation, only Paul Milsap (12.4) and Andrew Bogut (12.3) had more boards.

Lance made the WSU record books for most rebounds in a season.

Associated Press: PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Deonte Huff scored 17 points to lead Portland State to a 67-51 victory over Northern Arizona, and its first trip to the NCAA tournament, in the championship game of the Big Sky Conference on Wednesday night.

Nate Geiser led Northern Arizona (21-11) with 13 points and Kyle Landry had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Lumberjacks.

Portland State, the top seed as regular season Big Sky champions, closed the first half with an 18-4 run that put the Vikings ahead 34-20. They maintained their lead in the second half and led by as many as 17 points late in the game. Northern Arizona closed to within nine but did not challenge down the stretch.

The Wildcats eventually tied the game on a 3-pointer by Juan Pablo Silveira at the 11:02 mark and grabbed their first lead of the second half when two free throws by Steve Panos put them ahead 58-56.

The two teams exchanged leads over the next eight minutes before Larson's 3-pointer put the Lumberjacks ahead for good.

Van Brocklin's last game at the Dee
(Mar 7)
Q&A with wsubball.com
1. The Sacramento State game was a great one to hear on the radio. We blew 'em out in the second half and every one on the roster got some playing time. At half time we were down by 2 and then we won the game by 20. What happened in the locker room at half-time or in the second half?
We picked up our intensity on defense and rebounded the ball well. I think our intensity on defense led to easy baskets on offense.

2. Realizing we would have loved to have beatdown NAU on the road, as a senior how does it feel to get another home game?
It feels great. I love playing in the Dee and to get another opportunity to come out and play at home, in front of our crowd, is something I am very excited about!

3. Last time Montana State was in town (Senior Night) which was just a few weeks ago, you had a big night. To my knowledge it was one of the best Van Brocklin games I can remember. You hit a 3-pointer with 5:39 left to give WSU a 59-58 lead, the Wildcats' first lead since going up 2-0 early in the game. You had 12 points, 2-3 3-pointers, a steal, a block, and 0 turnovers. How did it feel at the time knowing that was your last performance at the Dee or so you thought?
That was a very bittersweet night, I was happy that I was able to perform well and help our team get the win in what was supposedly my last game in the Dee. But at the same time it was kind of sad to think it was my last home game. So as I said earlier I am excited to get to play at home one more time.

4. Last question, how is your hand doing? You cut it while cutting the net down after winning the conference tournament last year. Didn't you get stitches as well?
Ha ha, my hand is fine. I hate to admit it but yes I did cut it while cutting the nets down last year, and yes I had to get stitches, but it is totally fine now and hasn't bothered me at all this year.
